Niobrara Shale Drilling News


The Niobrara Shale formation is composed of a large mass of shale rock, and is located in Northeast Colorado. Below the formation lies deposits of oil and natural gas, and many mining companies are administering drilling operations in order to obtain those mineral resources. Some of the current drilling developments at the Niobrara site include:

  • Carrizo Oil and Gas has drilled six horizontal wells, with five of those wells being put into production. The Orlando Hill 26-44-8-61 well has reached a peak 24-hour production rate of 650 barrels ever day. The Nelson 17-44-9-60 well is "on production at an increasing oil cut." The Carrizo State 16-11-9-60 well has tested at 690 barrels per day. The Carrizo State 36-24-9-61 well has tested at 681 barrels per day. The Carrizo Bob White #1 well has tested at 725 barrels per day.
  • EOG Resources has reported that their Fiscus Mesa 9-10H well has been put into production at a restricted rate of 335 barrels per day, as well as 174,000 cubic feet of natural gas per day. They have also reported that their Gravel Draw 9-09H well is producing at a restricted rate of 227 barrels per day, and 146,000 cubic feet of natural gas per day.
